02 Dec 25: Its a Wrap
Finally made it to Angeles City last night after 2800km.
Today we took the opportunity to ride in the morning before returning the bikes, so we chose a traffic free route out of town, along 15km of 6 lane motorway (plus two cycle lanes plus 2 pedestrian lanes) to Clarke new town. The motorway was pretty much dissused with us being the only people on it!
Clarke new town was a very odd place, with brand new hospital, sports arena and huge swimming pool complex plus many other buildings.... All completly dissused and left to become derelict. Almost like a scene from a science fiction apocolypse movie. Having explored the ghost town, it was back to Angeles City via the new developments that soneone is pouring money into!
So our Philippine adventure is coming to a close.
Some 2,800 km covered, ridden over just about every surface imaginable. We’ve passed through areas of squalid abodes, shiny new condo resorts, and entire half-built towns left eerily deserted — a truly eclectic mix of living conditions that tells the story of this place in its own raw, fascinating way.
We’ve been pretty lucky with the hotels; most have been absolutely fine, and the odd quirks just added to the charm. The weather has played ball too, mostly sunshine with only three or four days of rain, though when it rained, it poured, sometimes with biblical enthusiasm.
Along the way we’ve soaked up some spectacular vistas: sweeping coastlines, mountain curves, rural backroads, and the occasional surprise that only travel on two wheels can deliver. And everywhere we’ve gone, without exception, we’ve been met by the warmest, friendliest people.
Viva la Philippines, thank you, it’s been one hell of a ride.
