21 Nov 2025 Trip proper starts
We started our trip proper with a splendid breakfast at a Greek restaurant in Angeles City, then it was time to take to the road proper for the journey ahead, circumnavigating Luzon island.
Taking the well-worn route out of Angeles — past the smelly overflowing drains, past the race circuit, along 6 miles of disused motorway (including cycle track), down the ridiculously wide concrete road, we made it to our first, delightfully refridgerated coffee stop.Dramas of the day:
Terry came to a very abrupt halt when his luggage strap wrapped itself around his rear sprocket, tearing off the rear light cluster in the process. After much bodgery, the light was reattached and the remains of the strap heroically re-purposed.BJ’s front brake failed thanks to a leaking master cylinder. No matter, the nearest bike repair shop managed to get the stubborn hex screws off with an impact driver Refilling the reservoir cured it for the moment.
Mark had Terry’s second-hand battery replaced.
Finally we were fit for the road, again.Soon the coast road beckoned, along with its heavy lorries belching fumes, suicidal motorcycles, and sidecars carrying every imaginable cargo. With a healthy disregard for both our own safety and the rules of the road, we made record time to that night’s hotel — a quiet beachside resort.
We arrived tired, dirty, and thoroughly jubilant after a fun and eventful first day. Some of us managed to take a dip in the sea, followed by an amazing banquet at the resteraunt next door, when the mountain of food arrived, we were sceptical that we would be able to finish it, no need to worry... it disappeared. THE BEST PART OF THE MEAL WAS THE SWEET AND SOUR PIG'S LIVER!
